This morning at a coffee shop, I overheard two baristas. “My day is incredible,” said one barista to another, “and it’s incredible because the Eras tour is back and I’m living for it.”
Unprompted, she continued by talking about the big business that is Taylor Swift and the philanthropic work she’s doing, and how she’s always keeping her audience on edge, wanting more. I honestly don’t know much about Taylor Swift, but I do know her fans are serious about advocating for her and enthusiastic about sharing their enthusiasm, and I’m living for that!
I might not understand die-hard fan culture, but I do know joy when I see it and I think it matters to share what we love. The energy radiating from the excited barista was palpable and witnessing this moment reminded me that it means something to share our passions and pleasures. By doing what you love, you inspire and awaken the hearts of others. Enthusiasm is electric!
This week’s OOH LA LA! list includes: bangs, dancing it out, seeing the moon!
Look, I know it’s not advised to cut your own bangs, but I did it and I’ve perhaps never felt more empowered. For weeks I debated the age-old existential question: “Should I grow out my bangs or cut them?” and finally decided my face feels empty without them. After watching a two-hour tutorial on how to do it with a razor, I went for it in a hotel room in Connecticut one morning this week. Now everywhere I go, I’m walking with my head held high and feeling renewed. Highly recommend cutting your hair!
Years ago, a therapist told me, “You can’t think your way through it,” and I know this to be absolutely devastatingly true, especially for someone like me who is really good at thinking. So how does one move through it? How do you feel feelings and quiet the endless questions and connections in your mind? Might I suggest dancing it out! Sure, it might feel silly to turn on a tune alone in your living room (or hotel bathroom) and start shaking your hips, but I promise after 30 seconds, you’ll feel some relief and remember the sensation of aliveness. From experience, I recommend this perfect dancing song. Give it a try!
Did you see the moon this week? Last night I caught a glimpse of it as it was rising and it was the biggest, orangest, juiciest moon I’ve ever seen! I was outside on my rooftop when I saw it and I yelled out loud, “oh my gosh! the moon!” To my delight, a neighbor on another roof heard me and for a moment, we shared a smile, and then both turned to be dazzled again by the bright light in the sky. I wanted to get a photo to share here, but the moon is never easily photographed, and I love that really. I’ll never get over seeing the moon.

Perhaps it’s true what Coco Chanel has said: “A girl who cuts her hair is about to change her life.”
“Reading OOH LA LA! has made me feel like I’m wearing a new set of goggles as I walk through life. Not rose-colored glasses exactly, but ones that invite me to see things fresh.”
