Everything feels hard right now, but there are bright flowers blooming everywhere and every so often the air smells sweet. My camera roll is all pinks and yellows and purples. In the wintertime, I will look at these photos and remember that this season will end. Truly, I need this reminder now too.
This week’s OOH LA LA! list includes: swinging in the rain, sleeping on an air mattress, watching dogs run through tubes.
On Wednesday I took a walk on the East River Greenway looking for relief from the overwhelm of packing and moving. As it started raining, I spotted a man swinging alone at the John V. Lindsay Park and knew this is exactly what I needed. For 20 minutes or more, I was swinging in the rain, catching glimpses of the Williamsburg skyline and listening to sounds of of a nearby softball game as I swung back and forth. My inner child was beaming.
I am currently sleeping on an air mattress because I recently returned my very expensive mattress and am waiting to move before I buy a new one. I like to imagine I am sleeping in the ocean, the waves rocking me up and down as the bed envelopes me and shifts into itself. I wake up in the middle of the night and see that my cat has been folded into the bed with me, and she’s hanging onto the blankets as if for dear life, riding the ocean air mattress waves. This makes me laugh!
I am not much of a sports spectator, but sitting in an arena watching dogs run through tubes at the Westminster Dog Show last weekend was everything I didn’t know I needed. For two whole hours, I gleefully clapped and laughed with a room of strangers as dogs big and small went up and down ramps, jumped over high bars, and waddled through tubes. I don’t know why, but every time the tubes part happened, the whole crowd clapped, every single time.
Here’s a little glimpse of the tubes and the joy!
From OLL readers…
From Sonia: This week I'm obsessed with tree bark. The textures and patterns are hitting me like they never have before. I don't know why they seem so prominent now, but combined with the green glow cast on the trunks by the leaves, I'm truly mesmerized and basically want to put my hands on every tree I see.
Thanks for reading and sharing! I’m so glad you’re here. I’d love to know - what is an OOH LA LA something you experienced or observed this week?
